Park Place Technologies – Windows Virtual Desktop

Challenge & Objective

Like many companies facing a growing need to provide for remote workers, Park Place Technologies knew it had to act quickly when a worldwide pandemic forced most of their workforce to shift gears and begin working remotely. As a company that provides exceptional global service for data center storage, server and network hardware for all tier one OEM equipment, Park Place needed to provide an environment for teams to work remotely, without missing a beat in terms of productivity and service. They came to Microsoft and The Provato Group to make that happen.

Solution

Our solution started with a proof of concept phase that leveraged Windows Virtual Desktop for field engineer staff around the globe, but also needed to be repeatable so they could use the solution for other departments. Since Park Place has 25 field engineers, but not all are using the solution at the same time due to geographic locations, the solution was designed to provide resources to the remote workers when they connect, but not create stale resources when the resources are not in use.

Life Invited – Industry Leading Print-On-Demand Solution

Challenge & Objective

Life Invited is a company that focuses on the consumer wedding paper business, and they shared with us their desire to have an industry leading, highly customizable, print-on-demand digital platform allowing customers to quickly and easily design and purchase wedding invitation suites.

Solution

The first challenge to overcome was designing a method that allowed for changing colors on the fly while designing a wedding card suite. This was a game changer for Life Invited, but the entire industry as well, as no other competitor sites had this capability.  Additionally, we developed unparalleled customization features, and a best in class customer experience that allowed administrative users to configure their own designs, text, colors, options and pricing, and also enabled customers to easily add and remove options, such as decorative edges, backside photos, ribbons, die-cut motifs, and foiled stamped charms.  The price of the card suite also updated with every selection, keeping the customer up-to-date on price in real time.

Corporate Screening – Modern Business System

Challenge & Objective

Corporate Screening, an Ohio based background screening company, had a critical business application that was outdated, cumbersome to use and support, and was becoming a drain on the effectiveness of their team.  The application was a homegrown, custom developed solution with no feasible upgrade path.  Rather than rebuilding exactly what Corporate Screening already had, the desire was to re-envision and streamline business processes aligned to a new solution with the intention of performing background investigations in less time, without sacrificing quality.

Solution

The results of our effort was a streamlined and easy to use interface which allowed Corporate Screening employees to perform their tasks more efficiently, increasing their capacity and allowing them to offer even better service to clients. After running preliminary numbers, volume had increased by almost 10% but turnaround time had improved by over 30% thanks to this new solution. Additionally, Corporate Screening was able to save nearly 700 hours of production time and close to $10K a month in savings…All of this in just the first month of use!

Betco – Multi-Site Sitefinity Upgrade

Challenge & Objective

Betco, a specialty chemical and equipment manufacturer in the commercial cleaning industry, leveraged the Sitefinity platform as their website CMS for many years.  Unfortunately, over that period Betco had fallen behind in upgrading their Sitefinity platform, and now had the challenge of upgrading from v9.2 to v12.2.  There was no direct path between these two versions, and multiple version upgrades would be required to make them current; a complex task to say the least.

Solution

Ultimately, the Provato team was able navigate the Sitefinity upgrade path in a manner that was minimally invasive to the Betco team, and as a result, the overall website experience was greatly enhanced in ways such as:

    • Improved performance for internal users and customers
    • The elimination of security vulnerabilities
    • New administration capabilities to help manage the three sites within the environment
    • Enhanced browser compatibility to support all of their digital properties

Betco – Evolved Website Design & Development

Challenge & Objective

Betco was looking for an application development partner to work with their existing marketing partner in redesigning and developing their company website on a platform that would adequately support their needs. In addition, Betco had disparate applications that all needed to be integrated into one cohesive ecosystem.

Solution

Leveraging the Sitefinity CMS platform, the Provato team designed a shared web solution that distributors and customers could access and all applications could live and work together seamlessly.  The platform proved to be a huge market advantage over their competition, giving Betco the ability to support customers and distributors in a manner most others could not.

Parts Inventory Rebuild for Vehicle Manufacturer

Challenge & Objective

The leading commercial vehicle manufacturer in North America was upgrading from an outdated version of Umbraco CMS, and needed help rebuilding their dealer parts inventory site.

Solution

Our solution began by preparing the dealer parts directory site for the Umbraco upgrade.  The site required changes to Single Sign-On authentication in order to work with the existing infrastructure and communicate with the new Umbraco database.  Various pages for sorting parts including by Part Category, Supplier and Brand also required data access updates, and new functionality was required to support diagrams and promotions shown on the same pages.  Once everything was functioning properly, site indexing was updated to work with new search formatting.  The site was then promoted to production and successfully launched to their dealer community.

Challenge & Objective

Coastal Pet Products was faced with the challenge of interfacing a legacy AS400/DB2 environment with their new website that was running on the Umbraco CMS platform with Microsoft Azure SQL.

Solution

We leveraged Azure Data Factory and Azure Blob Storage to design a data integration solution that enabled the two environments to communicate seamlessly. Website response time was critical to provide the best end user experience, and the Provato team designed, built, tested, and deployed a successful solution within a few short weeks.

Materion – ERP & SAP Integration Solution

Challenge & Objective

Materion was struggling with lost functionality as a result of converting their legacy ERP system to SAP. Specifically, they could no longer allow customers to manage product orders, purchase orders, and metal pools. Materion needed an application that could communicate with SAP and allow their customers to manage this data.

Solution

The Provato team built a solution in two components. The first component handled the integration with SAP, and manipulated data on demand via Remote Function Calls (RFC). The second component was a web application that retrieved data via RFC, presented information to the customer and provided the ability to modify as needed.

Ultra Tech 1 – Parts Tracking Software Solution

Challenge & Objective

Ultra Tech was contracted to build a Robot Automation System for building industrial sized doors. This system would involve multiple robotic arms, CNC plasma cutters, conveyor belts, and buffer shelves. Ultra Tech had significant Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience for automation solutions, but did not have the technical means to deliver the business system components of the solution.  Obtaining part information, tracking and workflow management were required to complete a finished unit.

Solution

Provato designed a solution that would allow the PLC to communicate messages through network protocols, and developed a workflow system to track parts as they processed through the system and ultimately sent to an out-feed conveyor upon completion. Additionally, a web application was built that leveraged touch screens to allow users to actively locate parts.

Ultra Tech 2 – Inventory Tracking Solution

Challenge & Objective

Ultra Tech had a large warehouse of parts, ranging in size from a single screw to large machine parts. Inventory tracking was a significant issue that was costing them time and money. They needed a system that could leverage handheld devices to scan and track parts coming into their warehouse, parts for a project, and unused parts for inventory.

Solution

The Provato team built a custom solution to produce QR Codes and Barcodes for parts inventory leveraging Ultra Tech Machinery’s existing label printers.  Additionally, a web-based application was developed to track parts location and history as well as an inventory administration tool for managing warehouses, bays, racks, and bins where parts would be stored.  Lastly, an interface was built to enable warehouse employees to leverage an iPad application to track, locate, and pick parts when working on job orders on the factory floor.

SharePoint Site Design & Development

Challenge & Objective

A health care provider in the United Arab Emirates needed a website to communicate information about the new facilities and services that they would be offering. The site needed to support Arabic and English and work seamlessly on mobile devices.

Solution

We worked closely with the client’s technical team to execute on a SharePoint solution. Custom functional components were developed leveraging lists, web parts, and variations for localization support. To support responsive design and Arabic right-to-left text, multiple CSS files were created using media queries and dynamic loading of files based on the end-user’s local culture settings.

Legacy Application Upgrade for Global Paint Leader

Challenge & Objective

A global leader in the development, manufacturing and sale of coatings and paint related products, came to us with an issue related to a Java application that was no longer working as needed. The application had remained largely untouched for over a decade and was in need of some major updates. It enabled internal employees and outside suppliers to maintain consignment and rebate data which had direct impact on revenue.

Solution

After a discovery period that outlined functional and technical requirements, our solution was to rebuild the entire application on a new Microsoft .Net platform.  After nine months of focused development, the new application was deployed to the client’s production environment. The user-base was successfully migrated to the new application, and they were thrilled to encounter numerous functional and performance improvements to greatly enhance the end-user experience.
